About

Hi! I'm Kelly.

It's so nice to meet you.

Thank you for visiting! Please feel free to leave happy/helpful comments as you read - I really like them!

I began this blog as a way to keep in touch with family and friends when we moved a few years ago.

Once I began writing, I remembered how much I loved it.

I began writing to remember our life as it was, our life as it is right now, and to remember what God teaches me through all of this.  My hope is that by sharing our story with others, it can bless someone, somewhere, in someway.

I am a believer in Jesus Christ, which makes me just another sinner, saved by grace, undeservedly and unconditionally loved by the Creator of the universe.

I grew up as an Air Force kid, married a country boy, and have never stopped moving. You can read about our lives before children here.

I taught first grade for three years, and loved teaching.  I have taken an undetermined-length-of-time break to focus on being a mommy for now. We have three kids.  I can hardly believe I've been out of the classroom for four years!  This is a season for me to focus on my kids and our church, which is so much harder than I ever imagined, but is worthwhile and a completely different calling.

We were foster parents for a year before having our first biological child.  This verse is pivotal to our lives as a couple:

We feel called to adopt someday, hopefully in the next few years because we always wanted to raise our belly babies and adopted babies together.

We were House Parents for almost a year, living in South Mississippi.  In the beginning it was like this, at the end it was like this. We left because of this.

The title of the blog is our last name - Honea, pronounced "honey" like bees make and bears eat, and the things we encounter most often - travels, trials, and triumphs.  John and I have been married for over 6 years, and moved 7 times (when you have to pack up everything you own and move it that is travel for reals).  Our biggest trials so far have probably been my car accident, when we were not able to adopt 2 baby girls we had been led to believe were going to be adoptable, and our 8 months of unemployment where some days were harder than others as we had to trust and wait and try to let our faith grow while being patient, even with two kids.  Our biggest triumphs are having a healthy baby and growing in our marriage (see #2) through spending so much time together in our last job, and having our second healthy baby (in a car, lol).

We just began full-time ministry about two years ago! We are so excited to embark on this journey with the Body of Christ.  We served in Tennessee, outside of Memphis at a large rather traditional church for 15 months, and moved back about a year ago to our hometown in Alabama to serve in a small contemporary church.  This has been a whirlwind of a fast first year. We are still absolutely loving serving at Church of the Valley.

I hope that here you can find something that makes you smile, or think, or laugh, or learn, or pray.
